Our Mountain From Our Backyard

..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

September 29 - New Mexico Art Educators:
I picked up my paintings last night from Masley Gallery at UNM. Because of covid restrictions it was best to hold the reception at the end of this years exhibition. Both of my watercolors were varnised and displayed, framed, without plexiglass.

...

September 28 - Watercolor Demo:
Steve Griggs did a demo at last nights NMWS meeting at Expo NM - Sorry if you missed it - he is conducting a four day workshop. I took the photos at last nights demo. That's Steve Griggs clowning around with Sandra Humphries after last nights demo.

...

September 25 - Range Cafe:
While Blossom was getting her hair cut at the "Wild Bird House" in Bernalillo - we had an early dinner at the Funky Range Cafe just down the road.

...

September 23 - My New Process:
This is a whole new process for me - NO chance to buckle because I glued the painting onto an "oversized" sheet of foam core using Heavy gel gloss medium - I used a roller from the kitchen to insure it was flat and then weighted it under a board all night. Then I sprayed a couple coats of Matt Archival Varnish on the painting before brushing a coat of liquid Matt Varnish over the painting. I sprayed the back of the Matt first and then brushed liquid Matt Varnish on the front of the Matt. I used double faced tape to attach the Matt to the painting. Then I cut away the excess foam core around the edges of the Matt. I really like the way it looks. Even the dust cover is new to me. I glued the heavy construction paper to the frame using Mod Podge and of course sprayed the paper with water so it would shrink tight. I hope this makes sence. I got the process from Tiny Stallard - her video on the NMWS Website was very helpful. Even the watercolor it this frame is a new process for me - I painted over a layer of Gesso Juice and then framed it without plexiglass.

...

September 22 - Today's Roses:
After I cut fresh roses for my Bride - I photographed them and messed around with photoshop. The Koi are from a painting I did nine years ago.

...

September 20 - No Plexiglass:
I framed my "Red Shirt Singer" for the exhibit in Las Cruces. (No Plexiglass)

...

September 18 - Roadrunner:
I really need to keep my camera handy - these were taken, today, with my i-phone when we saw him run past our kitchen window. I could get a lot better photos with my long lens on my Nikon.

...

September 17 - Burrito Spread:
My bride approved of my newest batch of sauce for our burritos - We tested it out at last night's dinner - So, the rest goes into the freezer for many, many, more great meals. I got the idea from a dish we use to order called "Burrito Spread" at Manny's on Southwest Blvd in KC Mo - I said, "I think I can create that at home" -so I did.

...

September 16 - Last Shelf:
We finally put the ladders away - now my bride doesn't have to climb anymore

...

September 14 - Back in 1993:
Two summers back in the 90's - I was invites to attend art education seminars sponsored by the Getty Foundation. It was at the Cranbrook Academy of Art just North of Detroit. The major topic at that time was "Discipline Based Art Education" being proomoted by Getty. While there, I did a self-portrait using graphic pencils.

...

September 13 - High Places:
I have a very healthy fear of heights - I'm so glad I married this brave lady - to climb ladders when needed.

....

Yesterday, Sally Harris hosted a potluck at her home for several of our Saturday Painter's group. It was to say goodbye to our friend Sally Boyd as she moves away from the Land of Enchantment. It's good to see our friends in person rather than simply on a ZOOM meeting. I plan to paint, in person, next Saturday with the old group.

...
