Our Mountain From Our Backyard

..................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

March 26 - Friday Critique:
I have not been painting much of late - but, I still enjoy visiting with my friends on Facebook.

...

March 25 - Painting Children:
I've painted portraits of several of my student's children before. So, I'm going to try it again. It's always been from photos that my students posted on Facebook. And, Yes - I always ask permission.

...

March 24 - I Keep Trying:
Another Watercolor Exhibition to enter - at least it's a virtual exhibit - so, I won't need to frame or ship my paintings to Texas if I'm lucky enough to be accepted.

...

March 23 - Second Vaccine Today:
My bride and I got our second dose of the vaccine today. I hope everyone would step up and get the shots when it's their turn. My bride baked a beautiful apple pie to celebrate.

...

March 22 - Spring Entries:
I've gotten more than my share of rejects from watercolor shows this year. It's time to turn my luck around - these are my three entries into the NMWS Spring Exhibition.

...

March 20 - KU Wins 93 - 84:
There's no way to overstate it: McCormack's 22-point, 9-rebound effort in 25 minutes on Saturday saved KU's season. After not starting, the big man played every minute that mattered and provided Kansas with both the needed scoring punch and some resistance to Eastern Washington big body Tanner Groves, who scored 35 in EWU's 93-84 loss to third-seeded Kansas.

...

March 19 - Friday ZOOM Critique:
Another day on ZOOM with my watercolor friends. Tomorrow, I'll miss my Saturday ZOOM Critique because my Jayhawks play in the NCAA tournament.

...

March 18 - Mars:
Nasa's Perseverance rover landed on Mars at 20:55 GMT on 18 February after almost seven months travelling from Earth. Since then, it has sent back some amazing images from around its landing site, Jezero Crater, a 49km (30-mile) wide impact depression just north of the Red Planet's equator. Here is a selection of the pictures sent back from the mission, as Perseverance hunts for signs of past microbial life, seeks to characterise the planet's geology and past climate, and collects Martian rocks.

...

March 13 - New Watercolor:
I thought I'd begin on a portrait this time.

...

March 12- On-Line Workshop:
I decided to sign up for the Kathleen Conover VIRTUAL Spring Watercolor Workshop May 4-7, 2021. It's being put on by the (NMWS) New Mexico Watercolor Society. I need some fresh approaches to loosen up my paintings. I believe her workshop fits the bill.

...

March 11 - One Long Year:
One long year of the lockdown - that's a long time to not see our family or friends. This photo was taken the day before our state locked everything down - our grand daughter Tess and her friend left for Kansas the next day. Perhaps by summer we can see our family again.

March 10 - Painting Again:
I finished and old watercolor that started weeks ago and had set aside. It's of a windmill on a road out of Taos on the way to Angle Fire. Today, I also started on a portrait of our congresswoman Deb Haaland. Biden selected her to be the new Sec of Interior - so, we will need to elect a new member from our congressional district.

...

March 9 - Almost Finished:
I see a couple things I might need to fix - but, my "RailYard Tour" is mostly finished. I will need to live with it for a while before I correct anything.

...

March 8 - Railyard Tour:
One day, I'll finally get this watercolor finished.

...

March 7 - Retired Teachers Meet On ZOOM:
Retired Art Teachers (RAEA)  held their 2021 Business meeting via ZOOM this year as part of the NAEA on-line convention. If things are safe next year the NAEA will be held in New York City. It will be a welcome change to see everyone in person.

...

March 6 - The Whole World On ZOOM:
It does seem like the everything is on ZOOM these days. This morning our watercolor meeting was on ZOOM and Rex Barron was featured. NM Great Job Rex !! Tomorrow at 9:00 am the Retired Art Teachers have a business meeting on ZOOM. That will make a third day in a row that I have to set my alarm to get up early to be on my computer. Next week I plan to sleep in every morning. Everything the NAEA does seems to be on the Eastern Time Zone - Some of us live out west in Mountain or Pacific time zones.

...

March 5 - Busy Friday:
Friday began with our Friday Painter's Critique - then a bit later I took part in a session for retired art teachers as part of the NAEA Vitural Conference.

...

...

March 4 - Space X:
SN10's Raptor engines will then reignite as the vehicle attempts a landing flip maneuver immediately before touching down on the landing pad adjacent to the launch mount," SpaceX wrote in the flight description.  SpaceX is developing its a 165-foot-tall (50 meters) Starship vehicle and a massive booster, called Super Heavy, as a fully reusable launch system for deep-space exploration. The vehicle will be the company's go-to spaceship for trips to Mars and elsewhere, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said.

...

March 3 - More Progress:
I finally pealed off the masking tape protecting the whites in my new watercolor "RailYard Tour".

...

March 2 - Got Our First Shots:
I got the text yesterday and quickly registered on my computer. We were scheduled the very next day. It was an easy process. We go back to the Fairgrounds on the 23rd to get our second shot.

...

March 1 - Slow Progress:
Just a bit more progress on my "RailYard Tour"
