January 30 - Albuquerque Mural:
There is a new mural in the Albuquerque City Hall -
Karl Hofmann builds large-scale installations that turn every-day materials into abstract spectacles of shape, color and light. His site specific structures transform spaces by bringing together built forms that seemingly defy gravity. Utilizing boards, plywood, and various types of hardware and lighting, Hoffman “builds” paintings. His three dimensional works are in conversation with the processes of two dimensional painting as he continually works to resolve issues that a painter grapples with including light and shadow, perspective, and balance.

January 29 - Barcelona Bicycles:
I pealed the liquid mask off of my "Barcelona Bicycles" last night - I stopped for the night and will get a fresh look later.

...

January 28 - Docent Training:
Yesterday - we had a fantastic talk at the museum by Roxanne Swentzell. Born in Taos, New Mexico in 1962, Roxanne is from the well-known Santa Clara Pueblo, Naranjo family of artists. “A shy girl who observed and listened to people, but would not talk. Roxanne learned to communicate her feelings to others by creating clay figures". She was for sure not a bit shy when speaking to the docents today.

January 27 - More Entries:
Last night, I entered three of my newest watercolors into an exhibition in Kansas. I've been entering "Art at the Center" in Overland Park for several years - even well before we moved to New Mexico.

...

January 26 - More Shadows:
I love painting shadows - this one will be a real challenge "Barcelona Bicycles" from photos I took in front of front of Casa Milà, the house designed by Antoni Gaudí.

...

January 25 - Painting Finished:
I completed my newest watercolor - "Street Artist - NOLA". I used a reference photo I took years ago in the French Quarter in New Orleans. It's one of our favorite cities to visit.

...

January 24 - "Boy With A Puppy":
More Good News - My watercolor "Boy With A Puppy" was accepted into the GEORGIA WATERCOLOR SOCIETY 2020 NATIONAL EXHIBITION - Last June this little guy was helping his mom clean rooms at the Sagebrush Inn - he carried the small puppy everywhere they went - it made a great subject - I just hope the poor puppy survived all that loving. Next time I'm in Taos, If his mom is still working there I'll give her the painting.

...

January 23 - Before & After:
So far - here's what my "Street Artist - NOLA" looks like Before and After I pealed the liquid mask off my painting.  I still have lots of work left on it to finish up.

...

January 22 - Started Painting:
Things do get in the way of my painting - Docent duty at the museum, organizing entries from other artists for MasterWorks, Watching my Jayhawks beat K-State, choosing student watercolors for the APS Metro Show, etc. etc. But. I did find a bit of time to do some painting on my newest watercolor "Street Artist-NOLA". I found time to mask out some of the lightest areas - then I started with a bit of color.

January 21 - New Watercolor:

My painting, "Artist-Majahual,Mexico" is 18 x 14 inches - on 300 lb Arches Rough. Now, it's time for a new subject.

January 19 - More Progress:
I pealed the liquid Mask off my watercolor "Artist Mexico" - now is the time to clean up the edges and work on the details. One thing I want to attemp, is to create the texture of the concrete surface the artist is painting on.

...

January 17 - A Bit of Progress:
At Friday Painters, I made some progress on my newest watercolor. The subject matter is from, April 2015, on one of our cruise stops in Mexico.

...

January 14 - Roll Them Over:
This morning I received notice that my paintings were "Not Invited" into the juried show in Houston. So, I rolled all three over - plus three more - into the Louisiana Watercolor Societies 50th Annual International Exhibition. I've had luck in NOLA before - so, I'll try there.

...

January 13 - New Watercolor Started:
I finished my "Merging Shadows" watercolor. The reference was from the photos I took in Barcelona in front of Casa Milà, the house designed by Antoni Gaudí. Now, I'm about to begin on a painting of an artist we saw in Mexico. This was one of the ports we stopped at in April of 2015.

...

January 12 - Progress On Merging Shadows:
Yesterday, I made a bit of progress on my newest watercolor "Merging Shadows".

...

January 10 - Keep On Painting:
I finally finished the last few touches on "Barcellona Shadows". Then I got a small start on "Merging Shadows" my reference is from the same location in Barcellona.

...

January 9 - Accepted and Rejected:
Today I began to get notices from juried shows that I've entered. My entry for the American Watercolor Society (New York) was rejected. I got the usual Thank you for participatingI e-mail notice. They received more than 1,100 entries of those fewer than 140 were accepted. But, more impotantly, I also got an e-mail from "Water + Color" a brand new national exhibition by the Pence Gallery in Davis, California. This is their first year - they received 374 entries and only accepted 40 - more importantly one was mine. I'll be shipping "Street Vocal" to California soon.

...

January 8 - I Love Shadows:
I dropped the shadows in - now, it's starting to look better - when it's dry I'll take the protective mask off.

...

January 7 - Moving On:
I'm moving on - calling my "Street People - NOLA" finished and working on my "Shadows Barcelona" which has much more potential as a dramatic composition.

...

January 5 - My Demo:
Yesterday - I was the substitute demo for the Watercolor Society - I showed how I create and paint over actual texture in my paintings. I apply Acrylic Molding Paste with a pallet knife to simulate the look of stucco and adobe. Today, I also made some progress on my "Street People - NOLA" today - I'm about ready to peal the Art Gum (Mask) off the painting

...

January 4 - Shadows:
I may be biting off too much here - but, I want to try more backlighting and I love shadows. I remember this day in Barcelona when the light was just right. There were crowds of people in front of Casa Milà, the house designed by Antoni Gaudí. I have several photo references theat I took that day. Perhaps I'll have a whole new series of paintings started.

..

January 3 - Bit of Progress:
This morning I made a little more progress on my newest watercolor "Street People - NOLA". I think adding the yellow line on the street helps.

...

January 2 - More Entries:
Here are the two watercolors I'm entering into the Spring Show in Las Cruces.

...

January 1 - Happy New Year:
I plan to do a lot of serious painting this year. I have 22 watercolors entered into seven exhibitions now - and, I plan to enter at least three more juried exhibits. So, I need to create lots of quality paintings. I'll either get rejected, get accepted or perhaps winn a few awards. I need the cash to build up the balance in my Princess account so we can take another cruise. Here's one I just finished and one I'm currently working on.

...

My most recent entries are into an International Exhibition in Houston, Texas:
