Our Mountain From Our Backyard

January 30 - Check Out This Art:
The Southern Chapter of the New Mexico Watercolor Society has created an on-line exhibition. Please check it out - the paintings are for sale or just for your enjoyment. Click the link below:

January 29 - Another ZOOM Day:
Today is another ZOOM day with my friends - it's good to see and talk with everyone and find out what they are painting this week. This pandemic may be with us for quite a while - so we have lots of time to paint. There is only one more day for artists to enter MasterWorks - so, as file-master, I spend part of my time collecting the entries. The deadline is 5:00 PM on Saturday.

...

January 28 - Finished:
I completed "Palermo Laundry" this morning - I'll find out what my friends think of it in critique tomorrow. I used masking tape to block out the whites. Please let me know if the shadows are dark enough.

...

January 26 - Slow Progress:
Slow progress on my "Palermo Laundry" in the end it should be worth it. I also shot a photo of our mountain from an upstairs window. There was a bit of snow in the yard - but, it's gone now. It looks best on our mountain where it belongs.

...

January 24 - Progress:
Step by step - I'm making progress on my newest watercolor "Palermo Laundry" - I've pealed off the tape exposing the whites - now to finish up the shadows and details.

...

January 23 - Saturday ZOOM & Painting Sold:
Saturday Painters ZOOM Critique this morning - Plus: Good Surprise - I sold a painting at the Balloon Museum "Morning Launch" - that's more money into my "Princess Account" - I just hope one day it will be safe to cruise again.

...
...

January 22 - Critique:
Friday ZOOM Critique with my fellow painters

...

January 21 - Sticky Notes:
I keep track of things by sticky notes stuck to my Mac - the background on my screen is a view of our mountain behind our house

...

January 20 - Palermo Laundry:
I blocked out the major white areas in my newest watercolor "Palermo Laundry" this morning. Now I can start to throw some color.

...

January 19 - More Entries:
These are the watercolors that I plan to enter into the Louisiana International this year - the deadline is next Tuesday

...

January 18 - Painting Finished:
I finished with my "French Quarter Princess" this morning - I painted her/him before - several years ago. This version in 21 x 16 inches - matted, it will fit a 28 x 22 inch frame. It's on 300 lb Arches Rough. I took the source photo several years back in New Orleans.

...

January 17 - Expression:

I believe I'm finished with my newest watercolor "Expression" - the horn player is from the French Quarter in New Orleans - he is caught in the bright sunlight. I was attracted by the twisted expression on his face as he paused a moment to applaud some fellow street musicians. It is 17 x 14 inches, on 300 lb Arches Rough.

...

January 16 - ZOOM Critiques By Friends:
Another ZOOM Critique with my Saturday Painter's group.

...

January 15 - Friday ZOOM Critique:
We had great attendance at today's ZOOM critique - great to see my friends again - even if it's just on the computer screen.

...

January 14 - Some Progress:
I'm making a little progress on my two newest paintings - I need to get them finished so I can enter them in the Louisiana exhibition.

...

January 13 - Love That Fountain:

My bride unpacked our angel fountain - We got it while I was still teaching - must have been about 18 years back - Found in it Galveston, Texas. It's nice to hear the sound of water in the house.

...

January 12 - Restful Day:
We should all be this comfortable - Blossom resting in her beanbag bed. I did get out of the house this morning - I had the oil changed and tires rotated in the Chevy. It's been a whole year since the last oil change - but then we seldom drive with the Pandemic. On the way home I put momey in the bank, picked up my drugs and got bread at the used bread store.

...

January 11 - Netflix:
I've been passing the days and hours of late watching Stargate SG-1 on Netflix. I never followed it before - so much of it is new to me. The United States government learns that an ancient alien device called the Stargate can access a network of such devices on a multitude of planets and in space. SG-1 is an elite United States Air Force special operations team, one of about 20 teams from Earth who explore the galaxy and defend against alien threats such as the Goa'uld, the Replicators and the Ori. The series draws upon Egyptian mythology, Greek mythology, Norse mythology and Arthurian legend. Netflix has the first nine seasons - I'm just into season eight - I should have about 45 more episodes to go yet. It does seem strange that everyone in the universe speaks english - but hey it's just a story.

...

January 10 - Painting An Expression:
I'm starting another watercolor of a musician from the French Quarter - making the expression work is my challenge

...

January 9 - NMWS Meeting & Demo:
Thanks to Gayle Weisfield for her fantastic virtual demo today for members of the New Mexico Watercolor Society. This morning the NMWS had it's first virtual meeting of 2021.

...

January 8 - ZOOM Critique Today:
Even though the internet service was very, very poor this morning - our Friday Painters Group was able to get through a critique. Some days technology is slow other days it works fine, I hope things work better tomorrow for the watercolor society meeting.

...

January 7 - Thank You Georgia:
With the run off election in Georgia now decided - now legislation will get considered for a vote in the Senate. We owe a big thank you to Georgia for helping the entire country out.

...

January 6 - New Painting Started:
I stopped by Ray's house and picked up ten new sheets of watercolor paper. Now I'm ready to do some serious painting. The first one is an old subject from New Orleans.

...

January 5 - Clean Up:
Today was the day to clean off the shelf over our living room. We had to remove all our treasures first and then put them back in place. Of course my bride did most of the work.

...

January 4 - Packing Up Christmas:
We love our Christmas decorations - but it was time to pack them up till next year.

...

January 2 - Keeping Busy:
My bride and I both find ways to keep busy (and out of each others way) during this long pandemic. I continue to paint my watercolors and she does her cross stitch.

...

January 1 - Slow Progress:
Slow progress on my newest watercolor - but then with the Pandemic I have lots and lots of time.
