July 31 - ZOOM  Critique:
My painting friends had another Saturday ZOOM Critique with friends this morning - this is a great way to end the month.

...

July 30 - Painting Finished:
I completed my newest watercolor "Artist at Work" - We spotted the sculpture under construction in Santa Fe a week ago. The artist is Tigre Mashaal-Lively - he has some nice pieces in the gallery behind his sculpture. As usual I painted over a textured surface of gesso-juice. On of the last things I did was attach some winkled pieces of white tissue paper a the painted oner the wrinkled paper.

...

July 27 - Progress:
I decided that my drawing needed a three heads and another hand. Depending on where you view the sculpture from - there are three heads and several arms. Mu composition works better with the extra hand showing. I've started on some color as well.

...

July 26 - New Watercolor:
I'm about to begin on a new watercolor "Artist at Work" based on a sculpture we saw under construction in Santa Fe

...

July 23 - Wonderful Birthday:
We started our morning with Breakfast at the Range Cafe in Bernalillo on our way to Santa Fe. While there my bride bought me a new hat at Double Take, a favorite place of ours to shop. We spotted a sculpture under construction. The artist is Tigre Mashaal-Lively - he has some pieces in the gallery behind his sculpture. We should drive back next week to see his installation completed. It will be lit up at night. We ended our day with dinner at Chedders in Albuquerque and later watching our Dodgers play baseball. Life is good.

...

July 21 - Taos in the Fall:
I finished my Taos Landscape - again It's painted over a layer of "Gesso Juice" and I used crinkled shapes of wax paper to block out some areas.

...

July 20 - Taos New Mexico:
Fall is a beautiful time in Northern New Mexico. I'm trying to capture that in my newest watercolor.

...

July 19 - Water Nightmare:
Our water in the back yard nightmare will be over soon - I called a plumber - he fould the leak and it was from my neighbors side - so, my neighbor said he would pay the bill. A Pro is digging as I type.

...

July 18 - Poppies Finished:
To bad I am not growing poppies anymore. I grew them in Kansas City and then again here in Albuquerque. Perhaps, I should get off my lazy but and plant them early next year. I finished my painting this morning and of course everything looks better matted.

...

July 17 - Saturday ZOOM Critique:
A few of our Saturday Painters got together for a ZOOM Critique this morning. I picked up a few suggestions to fix my newsest watercolors.

...

July 16 - Progress:
I painted with my Friday Friends this morning and made quite a bit of progress on my two newest watercolors. It's a real joy to actually see people in person - rather than seeing each other on ZOOM.

...

...

July 15 - The First Colors:
I'm finally adding color to my "Poppies" after I pull the wax paper off I can develop all the happy accidents that develop.

...

July 12 - Knowing When to STOP:
I added a few touches finishing my newest watercolor "New Roses" using several techniques. Knowing when to stop seems to be the secret. I put a textured coat of Gesso Juice down first. After it dried, I transfered my drawing. I used wax paper to block the roses. I wet the entire surface and stuck shapes of crinkled wax paper to protect some areas. Then I began to paint over everything with lots of pigment - tossed on some salt and sprayed the surface. At least thats how I started. You can see my steps along the way. I love this process because I creates lots of happy accidents and the gessoed surface creates interesting textures. A lot of the effects were done by blotting wet areas with a paper towel in the process.

...

July 11 - Space Flight From New Mexico:
The British entrepreneur earned his astronaut wings Sunday, after flying to space aboard a rocket-powered vehicle developed by his space tourism company, Virgin Galactic. Though just a test flight, the expedition — Virgin Galactic's first with a full crew — is a major boost for the company, which is aiming to start commercial flights with paying customers in 2022. In a live broadcast during the vehicle’s descent, Branson called the trip,“an experience of a lifetime.”
Branson.s flight was a suborbital jaunt, so rather than reaching orbit and circling the Earth, the vehicle flew to the edge of space, at an altitude of more than 50 miles. On previous test flights, the winged craft has reached an altitude of around 55 miles.

July 10 - A Finished Painting:
I added my last few touchups finishing my newest watercolor "New Bass - NOLA" using several techniques. I put a lightly textured coat of Gesso Juice down first. After it dried, I transfered my drawing. It's a subject that I painted years ago. I used wax paper to block the face and hands. I wet the entire surface and stuck shapes of crinkled wax paper to protect some areas. Then I began to paint over everything with lots of pigment - tossed on some salt and sprayed the surface. At least thats how I started. You can see my steps along the way. I love this process because I create lots of happy accidents and the gessoed surface creates fun textures. A lot of the effects were done by blotting wet areas with a paper towel in the process.

...

July 9 - Painting With Friends Again:
Our "Friday Painters" group met in person to paint this morning. It was good to actually see friends "in person". This morning, I got close to being finished with my "New Bass" watercolor and I got a nice start on a new watercolor called "New Roses"

...

July 5 - More Entries:
I just entered two of my newest watercolors in the NMWS Southern Chapter juried exhibition - I'm doing a demo in Las Cruces on October 10th - If I'm fortunate to be accepted into the show I can take my paintings down. If anyone else needs paintings transported south please let me know.

...

July 4 - Fall Exhibition:
These are my 16 watercolors that will be on exhibition at the New Mexico Cancer Center this Fall. When the New Mexico Cancer Center was initially constructed in 2001, one of the primary design goals was to surround patients and staff with beauty and light. So, the center was constructed as a living art gallery as well as a medical facility, filled with stunning, high-quality art, many created by local artists, with new exhibits every three months. We are extremely fortunate to have Regina Held, a greatly respected and very knowledgeable member of the New Mexico art community, as our gallery curator. Regina, came by my house this morning and selected the pieces for me to sisplay this fall.

July 3 - News of the World:
This is the first time I've paid extra to stream a movie - "News of the World" is a fantastic movie. Five years after the end of the Civil War, Capt. Jefferson Kyle Kidd crosses paths with a 10-year-old girl taken by the Kiowa people. Forced to return to her aunt and uncle, Kidd agrees to escort the child across the harsh and unforgiving plains of Texas. However, the long journey soon turns into a fight for survival as the traveling companions encounter danger at every turn. Well worth your time - check it out.

...

July 2 - Progress:
I am making some progress on my newest watercolor - I need to study it for a while before I continue

...

July 1 - Keep On Painting:
Today, I'm trying an old subject on a new surface - the painting last year was successful - but I want to try it over textured gesso juice.
