Watercolor (12/13):
If you ever need a reference source for a question about watercolor - this is it. http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/water.html  Someone with lots of time on their hands has done the research for you.

Andrew Connors (12/12):
The Local IQ newspaper here in Albuquerque ran an article on Andrew Connors, our curator of art at the Albuquerque Museum. Click Here for a link to the entire article by Jessica Depies. "Andrew Connors brings infectious enthusiasm to his job as curator at the Albuquerque Museum and opens the doors wide to the public......"

I Don't Like Change (12/11):
I do not like change - my bride is sure that's why I've stayed with her for 48 years - Today I upgraded the operating system on my MacBook Pro to Mac OS 10.7.2 "Lion" and then found out that Lion does not support Nvu that I've used for years to build web pages - Now I'm going to try KompoZer to build web pages - something new to learn. KompoZer seams to be a newer version of Nvu so the adjustment may not frustrate me too much.

Up At 3:00 AM (12/10):

I woke early to shoot photos of the lunar eclipse. Before the next eclipse, in 2014, I need to learn how to adjust the light levels on my camera. I also need to use a tripod next time (rather than my mono pod).

What Good Lunar Eclipse Photos Should Look Like:
The photographs below are not my photographs.

Today's Painting (12/9):

I almost finished my new watercolor of our grandson Tim. I paint on Friday mornings with a group of fellow artists at the Unitarian church. I'll try to finish the portrait tomorrow but first things first. Before that, I need to get up real early to shoot the moon. Tomorrow is an eclipse of the moon right at sunrise. Then in the afternoon I'm watching the Jayhawks play basketball with other alumni at Fox and Hound.

Moon Photos (12/8):

I've been trying to get some good photos of the moon rising over our mountain. I got good ones yesterday, but even better ones today. I'll try tomorrow but it may be too dark. The sun will set just a few minutes before the moon comes over the mountain. If it's too dark the moon is so bright that it's hard to get a correct exposure - the details are lost. But, I'll try to shoot the moon anyway, just in case. Then on Saturday morning - we have a lunar eclipse just before sunrise. I'll need to get up early and find a decent vantage point.

Museum Docents (12/6):

Today, another party, this time it's the docents at the Albuquerque museum, we are having our annual holiday luncheon. I'm dropping off a CD with 17 more photos of docents to be added to our board in the docent office. It's great to be able to connect names with faces - especially at my age.

Painting Exchange (12/5):

Today, was the NMWS annual holiday pot-luck and painting exchange. Artists brought a painting, wrapped in holiday paper. When your number was called, you picked a package to open - or, you could steal one that had already been selected. Once a painting had been in three hands it was yours to keep. Everyone went home with a masterpiece or at least got to hold one for a while. I played Santa this year - calling out numbers at random.

Jayhawk Basketball (12/4):
Yesterday, I watched a great game on ESPN 2 from Lawrence, Kansas. The team is improving as the season progresses. It was a tough 1st half, but then the Jayhawks ran away with it - winning by 28 points.
Led by senior Tyshawn Taylor's 24 points and junior Thomas Robinson's eight rebounds, the Kansas Jayhawks took a hard-nosed game against the South Florida Bulls, 70-42 Saturday evening inside Allen Fieldhouse. Kansas improved to 5-2 on the year with the win, while USF fell to 5-4. The next game is on Tuesday against USC - again in Lawrence.

Today, my bride and I are going to the museum to partake in the watercolor Society's annual Holiday Party. Always lots of fun, we take paintings wrapped in Christmas paper and come home with a couple of masterpieces in exchange.

Snow in the Mountains (12/3):

It snowed in the valley here in Albuquerque - but, it melted by 10 am. I took photos in the afternoon to show the snow in the mountains - where it belongs.

I use a 300 mm lens on my camera to shoot these photos from our backyard.  As long as the snow keeps to our mountain I'm happy.

Started A New Watercolor (12/2):
I'm attempting a watercolor of our grandson Tim in his football uniform. He's holding his trombone - he also plays in the band at halftime. The triplets turned 13 a couple months back. I started the drawing this morning and worked on the painting in my Friday painters group. I'll try to finish it up next Friday.

My Recent Watercolors (12/1):
Below are my recent watercolors. I've entered eight paintings into three juried shows - WFWS, MasterWorks of NM and Western Colorado. When I get information on which paintings are rejected from those shows, then I can enter them into other juried shows. This winter, I'm thinking about entering shows in Louisiana, Georgia, one in Houston and of course the NMWS Spring show.
