Yesterdays Snow in Albuquerque (12/16):
The locals think this is really something. What would they think if we had a real snow.

Georgia O'Keeffe TV Movie (12/15):
Yesterdays Albuquerque Journal ran an extensive article about Taos Pueblo musican Robert Mirabal. He has been cast to play Tony Luhan in the movie about Georgia O'Keeffe. The movie will air in the later part of 2009. The drama will chronicle the turbulent, 20-year love affair between celebrated artist Georgia O'Keeffe and photographer Alfred Steiglitz. Joan Allen will play O'Keeffe, while Tyne Daly will play Mable Dodge. The film will be on the Lifetime cable network. Here's an article from the Tao's Daily Horsefly.

Click Here to see the web page I created using the text from the Journal article on Robert Mirabal. I als created a web page using the text on a story the Journal ran about my friend Ming Franz and her fantastic Splash Painting technique. Click Here to see the article on Ming Franz.

Sunday Morning Snow:
We woke up Sunday morning to find lots of new snow on our mountain. I saw a few flakes falling but they melted as they hit the ground. I was back out there with my camera recording the snow on the Sandia. Snow belongs on the mountain - not in the city.

More Mountain Pics (12/14):
Yesterday morning I shot some pics of the sun rising over our mountain. There is some morning snow on the mountains now. We enjoy seeing the snow (where it belongs) up in the mountains. We did buy a snow shovel a couple years ago - but it's yet to be used. Any photo on my blog with a blue border is a hot link to a larger image - just click on the image.

Where is your dot ? (12/13/08):
My ClustrMaps counter was reset last month because it was becoming crammed full of little red dots. Now the map in the upper right of my blog is becoming populated with new dots. Each dot indicates the location of a visitor to my web site. Bigger dots indicate multiple visitors. I'm a visual person so it's interesting to actually see where my visitors live. Which dot is yours ? If you are interested in having a ClustrMaps counter on your blog or web site - just CLICK HERE.

Spelling Errors:
Sorry for all my spelling errors. If you read my December blog before today you would have found a bunch. Thank goodness for spell checker. I ran my spell check this morning and fixed several errors.

Dollar Movies:
Frani and I actually went to the movies twice this week. We don't see a movie when it first comes out because we wait for it to hit the Dollar Shows. There are two "$" theaters close to our house - although they really cost $1.25 now. Earlier this week we saw "Dark Knight" (the new Batman film) and yesterday we saw the Angelina Jolie movie "Changeling". I highly recommend the movie. It's based on a true story. I especially like period films. This one , directed by Clint Eastwood, does a wonderful job of recreating the Los Angeles of 1928. This is quality film making with a real story worth telling.
Painting Blossom (12/12):
This morning, I'm starting on two watercolors of my dog - Blossom. I took the photos, in the Kansas snow, that I'm using for resources. That was back last Christmas when we first got her. She loved the snow back in Kansas. Below are the drawings I'm starting with.

Kimo Exhibit (12/11):
I'm putting two watercolors into the Alternate Spaces Exhibition at the Kimo Theater. The theme is "primarily red" and both of paintings fit the bill. One "Four Poppy Buttons" is a close up view of my poppies from this springs garden in our backyard. The other "Wyoming Tim" is a good friend and fellow watercolorist who attends the watercolor workshop in Taos every June.

Future Exhibits:
In January we have another Alternate Spaces show at the Loma Colorado Library in Rio Rancho.  I'll have to decide what to put in that exhibition right after the holiday. Other, more important exhibits, coming up are MasterWorks of New Mexico and the NMWS Spring Show. Both are juried so I'll have to choose carefully. I was rejected from last years MasterWorks and the NMWS Fall Show. Perhaps my luck will turn. I should have my rejection notice from the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies before the MasterWorks deadline (1/31) so I could have time to select from my rejects. Click here for a MasterWorks prospectus.

Moonrise:
I captured a couple of pics of the moon rising over the Sandia this evening. Tomorrow should be the full moon - I'll try to get some shots then too. I noticed the moon first as it appeared in a window with our stain glass balloon. Our mountains are called "Sandia" (Spanish for Watermelon) because of the red color they turn as the setting sun hits them every afternoon.

New Art Added (12/8):
Pat Baca's beautiful watercolor is the newest addition to the Duncan art collection. Now I need to find an appropriate frame for it.

NMWS Holiday Party (12/7):
New Mexico watercolor artists gathered at the Albuquerque museum today to celebrate another great year. We ate good, visited with old and new friends and took part in a fun painting exchange called a Chinese Auction. You bring a gift wrapped painting - When your number is called you pick a painting and unwrap it. Each new participant can either unwrap a painting or steal one that has already been selected. After a painting has been in three hands it is declared dead and that person takes it home. I went home with a beautiful watercolor by Pat Baca. After a few more years of holiday parties, I'll have my walls filled with watercolors by my friends.

Alternate Spaces Exhibit (12/5):
Tonight was the opening reception for the NMWS Alternate Spaces exhibition at the Arts Alliance. Alternate Spaces means it's not a juried show. Members choose what they wish to exhibit. The exhibition looks great. It's a wonderful space to show off our watercolors.

I have three watercolors in the exhibition at Arts Alliance. We were fortunate to get December as our exhibit date. Perhaps some Holiday shoppers will stop by. The next Alternate Spaces exhibit is at the Kimo Theater in January.

Barellas Coffee House (12/3):
After taking 3rd graders through the museum yesterday (Tuesday) our team of docents ate at Barellas Coffee House on South 4th street. It's just down the street from the National Hispanic Cultural Center. I'd heard about the restaurant before but this was my first time eating there. I have to admit this place is on my list of favorite places to eat now. It more than passed the test. Next, I'll have to try Powdrell's BBQ on North 4th street. We are so spoiled by BBQ in Kansas City - that we have not even looked for BBQ in Albuquerque.
Watch Out Allison Krauss:
Young Tess is now taking up the violin. Along with her expertise on the piano she is becoming quite a musician.  She may have a wonderful career ahead of her.

Docents Celebrate (12/2):
Yesterday, the Albuquerque Museum Docents and Staff held our annual Holiday Dinner at the Hotel Albuquerque. This was a fantastic opportunity to visit with other docents.

Back From Kansas (12/01):
I took a break from my blog because Frani and I drove to Kansas to spend Thanksgiving with the grandkids. Thanksgiving dinner was at the home our youngest son and daughter-in-law. Joining us, for turkey dinner, were five grand-children and three great-grand-children. Here's a pic of Tess and Tiffanie helping Grandma bake a cake.

Trip To Precious Moments:
Grandma and I left Timothy at home to play video games when we took Tess and Tiffanie to see the Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri. This was not a religious visit. Tiffanie loves these little dolls and we made the trip for the girls. The Precious Moments layout just outside Carthage is vast, and quite impressive. The girls were very interested in learning about the artist Samuel Butcher who began this impressive inner prize. We all had an enjoyable day, And of course Tiffanie left with two new dolls (after 1 1/2 hours of decision making).

Pittsburg Memories:
On the way back, we drove through Pittsburg, Kansas. That's where I lived as a boy. I got to show the girls where I went to elementary school. Then we drove around to find the houses of some of my childhood friends. We found the land where I lived as a boy. A new house is there now. It was strange to find the street paved.

My Missing Dots:
While I was gone, the dots on my map disappeared. I knew they would have to adjust the map at some point - it was getting quite crowded.
