48 Years Together (8/31):
Today is our 48th anniversity.  My bride is off shopping for new shoes.  My present is that I did not have to go shopping.  I hope she is having fun today.  We each seem to do our own thing.  I play on my computer and paint - while, Frani creates her quilts and shops for shoes.

Art Teachers At Work (8/28):
Yesterday, I joined other members of the New Mexico Art Education Association's Board to work on our constitution and bylaws.  We will finish our work today.  We worked in a beautiful elementary art classroom in the South Valley.  These kids a fortunate to have such a creative and dedicated art teacher like Michelle.  Unfortunately, in Albuquerque most schools get art every other year.  So this beautiful, inviting enviorment will become a music room next year.

Painting Selected for Fall Show:
I got an early notice today that one of my watercolors was selected for the NMWS Fall juried exhibition.  It's one that shows my grand daughter Tiffanie trying to bury her brother at White Sands in Southern New Mexico. The exhibit opens October 7th in the Fine Arts Building at Expo New Mexico.

Workshop In Kansas (8/27):
I just got the confirmation that I'm headed back to Kansas to do a watercolor workshop for art teachers in Garden City at the KAEA Fall Conference in October.

Painting Finished (8/26):
I finished my newest watercolor of Poppies this morning painting with my Friday painting group.  Everyone seemed to think it came out great.

September Brushstrokes (8/25):
The new watercolor newsletter editor is on a roll.  Andrea sent the September issue off to the printer today.  Included with this months Brushstrokes is the NMWS member's copy of the WFWS prospectus.  The next juried exhibit is being hosted by Nevada.  All members of the NMWS should submit entries to me as New Mexico's delegate to Western Fed.  I'm posting a link to our newsletter on the left and a link to the WFWS prospectus on the right.  You must be a member of one of the eleven socities to enter WFWS.  Entries must go through the delegate of your society.  Deadline for entry is November 4th.

Updating From My New Laptop (8/24):
I'm transferring files and software over to my new MacBook Pro to find out if I can update my website from my laptop.  The learning curve is not that steep.
Most of the day was shopping at Dillards with my bride.  It was an extra 40% off of sale items for Dillard card holders.  Shopping is my brides hobby.  We stopped at the Hong Kong Buffet for great meal.  So the day turned out OK.

Tire Fixed (8/23):
Live and Learn - my sensors told me that my right front tire was low.  That was 2000 miles back.  We checked it and the tire pressure was fine.  I stopped today to see the price of afix for the bad sensor.  Turns out that they did not reset my cars computer when they rotated my tires.  There was a nail in the right rear and the computer thought that tire was still up front.  Tire fixed now - no charge, and the computer knows which tire is where now.

Boxed Up for Mississippi:
My painting is all boxed up and ready to be shipped to Mississippi.  I'll ship it Friday so it does not get there too early.  It's going in my only large air float box.  So, if I get a large painting in another out of state show - I'll have to order another large box.

Painting Framed (8/22):
This morning, I framed my watercolor for the MSWS Grand National. Tomorrow, I'll box it up to be shipped to the museum in Jackson, Mississippi.  It looks good in one of the frames from the recent WFWS exhibit.
New Brushstrokes Editor (8/21):
This morning, I drove to Placitas to train Andrea on putting the watercolor newsletter together.  She is a quick learner.  We had it done in 2 1/2 hours.  Then to celebrate, she took me to lunch at the Range Cafe.  The views from up in Placitas are wonderful.  Below is a shot I took looking back at the Sandia partly obscured in clouds as I left Andrea's.

Missed Painting (8/20):
I didn't check my e-mail close enough.  I missed the message that our painting group had moved to the church basement.  Did not even think there was a basement.  So, when I got there and found a different group in the usual space - I just drove back home.
That gave me time to put together articles to send our new watercolor newsletter editor.  I'm driving out to Placitas on Sunday to help Andrea put our September issue of Brushstrokes together.
Frani and I both have been extra tired since returning from our trip to Kansas.  Can't be that we are getting older - NO, that's not it.  Must be adjusting to the changes in the weather.

Friday's Progress
Back To Painting (8/19):
This morning I joined my Friday painting friends at the Unitarian Church.  It's good to get a brush back in my hands.  I decided to paint Poppies to loosen up.  Tomorrow I'll head over to the La Mesa Church to join my Saturday painter friends.  I should be able to finish the Poppies tomorrow.

Visiting Family (8/18):
While in Kansas, we drove into Kansas City to visit our oldest son Jimmy.  This was our first opportunity to meet his new girl friend Michelle. We got to go out with them for a couple of meals and catch up on what's going on in his life.  The photos were taken in front of the Italian restaurant we dined at.

"Taos Staircase"
Going to Mississippi
Painting Accepted to Mississippi (8/17):
We picked up our held mail this morning and sorted through it.  My entry to NWS in California was rejected.  But, I got a watercolor in the Grand National in Mississippi. That's my third year, so I should be a Signature Member in the MWS now.  The juror, Kathleen Conover, selected my "Taos Staircase" painting.  I'll need to ship it off to Jackson, Mississippi next week.
I picked up a few groceries this morning and decided to make French Toast for breakfast.  Meals on the road are OK - but, nothing beats cooking at home.  I'm posting the last sunrise I saw while in Kansas. That was on Monday.  We left Tuesday, at 2:30 am, way before sunrise.

Bride & Groom
Back From Kansas (8/16):
We drove to Kansas for a grand daughters wedding.  So, I'm late posting anything to my August blog.  Our first day there was the hottest day of the year - a WHOPPING 110 degrees.  A few days later rains brought the temperature down - but, not the humidity.  We enjoy our kids and grandkids but, It's always nice to be back home.
While in Kansas, we made several trips into Kansas City.  We always stay with our son 50 miles south of the city.  It's less than 800 miles to Buddy's house from Albuquerque but, we put 2700 miles on the car due to the many trips into the city.  I took in a soccer game at the new soccer stadium, visited the Monet's at the Nelson, ate at Margarita's, went to the dentist, visited friends and family, and of course drove in for the wedding and rehearsal.
The car was loaded, on the way back home, with the dozen quilts Frani had quilted this time. Plus, the keyboard I took to Kansas for Tess to play at her sister's wedding and of course the stuff we picked up at Nebraska Furniture Mart in Kansas City, Kansas.
It was my job to take photos at the wedding - so, I posted a few here.  On Sunday after the event, I edited over a 1000 pics down to about 175 which we had printed up, as 4 x 6's, for the brides album.  I took my printer on this trip so I could print the larger photos.  We assembled the albums before leaving for New Mexico.
