Our Mountain From Our Backyard

December 30 - Slow Progress:
Slow progress on my newest watercolor - but then with the Pandemic I have lots and lots of time.

....

December 29 - A Challenge:
This new painting should be a real challenge - this is closer to the street scene that John Salminem wanted us to use in his workshop. The street scene is from Cartagena just after an early morning rain. One side of the street is in shadow and the other side brightly lit. I hope to include the wet reflections in the street.

December 28 - Great Memories:
This is a self-portrait of my bride and I - we were on a 49 day cruise in 2016 and it was Halloween. It was fun to paint and a memory of good times. One day we will cruise again. the image is  18 x 13 inches - matted it will fit into a  24 x 18 inch frame. I used salt in the background and liquid mask to protect some whites. Any suggestions to improve it are welcome.

December 27 - Self Portrait - Of Sorts:
I got a decent start on my painting of my bride and I dressed up on our cruise in 2016.

...

December 26 - Portrait Finished:
This morning, I finally finished my portrait of "Bud" just in time for our Saturday Critique.

Christmas Eve - Fun Painting Started:
It's about time I painted something fun - this will be a self-portrait of my bride and I - we were on a 49 day cruise in 2016 and it was Halloween - a time to party.

December 23 - Staying In Contact:
Staying in contact through computers are great in this time of Covid-19: one friend sent me a photo of last nights sunset in Southern Colorado - I was in contact with another friend in Costa Rica through e-mail and Facebook, then a friend in Albuquerque gave me the site to sign up to get for the vaccine - aren't computers great ?
Site to sign up for the vaccine (in New Mexico) We signed up and they will email us when we can schedule

December 21 - Waiting  Another Year For Christmas:
It will be another year before our family gets together for Christmas - Covid-19 should have mostly cleared up by then. I'm posting a photo of our triplet grandkida when they were at our house 8 years ago in 2012. Of course they are 22 years old now. We con only visit via the computer now. We just had a chanch to chat with Tess via Facetime yesterday. Hopefully next year we can see everyone in person.

December 18 & 19 - ZOOM Critiques:
I get to see and chat with my painting friends every Friday & Saturday.

...

December 17 - Deb Haaland:
Our congresswoman Deb Haaland has been tapped as President-elect Joe Biden’s interior secretary, according to The Washington Post and other national news outlets. If confirmed, Haaland would make history as the nation’s first-ever Native American cabinet secretary and would lead an influential federal agency that oversees more than 500 million acres of public lands and tribal issues. Haaland, who is a Laguna Pueblo member and former San Felipe Pueblo tribal administrator, had been touted as a potential Cabinet pick by many fellow House members and Native American groups.

December 16 - Albuquerque Arts Board:
We held our monthly Arts Board meeting again on ZOOM today. The Mayor joined the meeting for a while - it's good to have a mayor with a degree in Art History. A few of the topics discussed were: the possible donation of art my Hary Nadler - information about an artist to do a mural at the Sandia Science & Technology Park and improved lighting on the art at Fire Station # 7. The possible artist for the mural at the Sandia Science & Technology Park is a New York artist - Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya. So of course her website is alonglastname.com. It may be quite a while before the board can hold meetings in person again.

December 12 - Trying A Portrait:
I'm going to attempt a portrait - this is on a 1/2 sheet of 300 lb Arches Rough.

...

December 11 - ZOOM Critique:
Very poor connection on our ZOOM Critique this morning - but, it was good to see my friends. I don't know if the issue is with Comcast or my computer.

...

December 10 - Bike & Adobe:
I finally finished my "Bike & Adobe" watercolor. That's my friend Jason - he rode his bike over to the Ranchos church to see the progress on the annual re-mudding. Matted it fits into a 28 x 22 inch frame. I applied light molding paste with a pallet knife to the adobe prior to painting.

December 6 - Spirit of Christmas:
My bride got a few of her Santas out so it would feel like Christmas at our house.

...

December 5 - Holiday Party On ZOOM:
Great fun was had by all - the New Mexico Watercolor Society held it's annual Holiday Party on ZOOM this year.

...

December 4 - ZOOM Critique:
Our Friday Painter's Group held a ZOOM Critique this morning.

...

December 3 - Old Town Gallery:
Several of the artists in our Friday Painter's group have paintings in the Yucca Gallery in Old Town.

...

December 2 - Progress:
I made a bit of progress on my newest watercolor: I added some texture to the adobe walls before I applied any color.

...

December 1 - Bike & Adobe:
I'm starting a new watercolor this morning - it's from a photo I took at the church in Ranchos de Taos. My friend Jason rode his bike over to check out the progress on the annual remudding of the churc Like myself, Jason comes to Taos every June to paint watercolors at the Sagebrush Inn. We all hope the pandemic will ease up so we all can return to Taos this June.
