More Rain in Albuquerque (7/27):
Sometimes it's just a threat of rain or maybe a promise - but today, it actually rained - which is great. Of course, all the thunder at night sets off Blossom's barking which wakes us up. Also, I boxed up my watercolor to ship off to Mississippi. I'll need to wait till August 22nd to ship it because they want it to only arrive between certain dates.

Picking Up Paintings (7/26):

Today, I picking up my three paintings from the New Mexico Art League show.

PUBLISHED: Sunday, June 22, 2014:
While I was away in Kansas City - Wesley Pulkka wrote a nice article for the Albuquerque Journal about the exhibit at the New Mexico Art League. I only learned about the write up when I picked up my paintings this morning.

New Watercolors (7/25):
I'm starting two new watercolors this morning - both are from the concert in Kansas City - Each are on gesso coated handmade paper - I used white gesso on the one of Allison Krauss - the other paper is coated with a new buff colored gesso.

My Birthday (7/23):
Lucky for me, today my jury duty was dismissed early - So, for my birthday - my beautiful bride took me to see "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" in 3-D and then to our favorite Hong Kong Chinese Buffet - It's been a long time since we went to a full priced movie - that was 2 years ago - I loved "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes". It was extreamly well done - I expect a sequel.

New Mexico Sunrises Are The Best (7/22):
As I savored my morning coffee and took daily dose of drugs, I was treated to another beautiful New Mexico sunrise. We simply need to just glance out our windows to view the amazing colors over our Sandia mountains.

Watercolor Donated:
This morning, I dropped off my portrait of Michelle Luhan Grisham at her, 16th floor, congressional office her in Albuquerque. They said that it will be hung in her conference room.

For New Watercolors (7/21):

Right now, I'm playing with my photos in Photoshop to find new images to paint from.

Allison Krauss Finished (7/18):

This morning, I finished my watercolr portrait of Allison Krauss. I put it in a mat and will live with it for a while. I need to decide if I'm going to do a second version or what. Since the Court does not hold trials on Fridays - I got a day off from jury duty to paint. I'm assigned to jury duty for the next two weeks. Tomorrow, being Saturday, I'm picking up my painting from the NMWS show at the Unitarian Church.

Mississippi Grand National (7/16):

Judi Betts (Juror), selected my painting, ”Mc Euan", to hang in the Mississippi Watercolor Grand National Watercolor Exhibition to be held at the Mississippi Museum of Art located at 380 South Lamar St., Jackson, Ms. 39201. The Show will hang from October 4, 2014 through November 16, 2014. That makes six years in a row that I’ve been accepted into the Mississippi Watercolor Grand National.

Summer Rain - It's All Relative (7/13):
We returned, a few days ago, from Cool and Comfortable Kansas City to Hot and Humid New Mexico. Of course it's all "relative" - Humidity is a percent of moisture the air can hold and a given temperature - The warmer it is the lower the relative humidity - We are in our "Monsoon Season" which means we will get rain - close to an inch so far this month for a total of almost two inches for the year so far. The weather forecast for Albuquerque today is a high of 89 degrees with "Warm & Humid" as the forecast, which for us means 26% humidity in the afternoon. Here, in the desert, that's what is called humid. We turned on our AC when we got back from KC. Only here, it is called "Refrigerated Air" as opposed to Swamp Coolers which are common here. For my friends in other parts of the mid-west and the south we call 26% humid here. My photo is of our rare rain, in our back yard, a few days ago. Enjoy your summer - Everyone.

Two Love Birds (7/10):

Here's a photo of my bride and I, at Starlight Theater, back in Kansas City - our own Selfie !!

Back To Painting (7/11):
This morning, I'm starting on a portrait of Allison Krauss - It will be good to get back to painting - I'm working on a sheet of handmade paper from Taos that I applied a coat of gesso to. I took the photo references at Starlight Theater in Kansas City.

Above is the progress I made on my portrait of Allison Krauss this morning.
The surface of the handmade paper was damaged when I removed the liquid mask.
So, I'll have some repair to do before I finish the painting.
....

Another Entry (7/10):
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my entry into the (National Watercolor Society) NWS Exhibition - This is a really tough show to get into - The jurors of selection are: Katherine Chang Liu, John Salminen & Carole Barnes. If selected, my painting will be in San Pedro, California.

Big Surprise (7/9):

We got back to Albuquerque about 2:30 this afternoon to find this site in our backyard. It had shot up before we left for Kansas - but, it flowered while we were away.

Concert in the Park (7/6):
While in Kansas City, we took in a concert at Starlight Theater, in Swope Park. Allison Krauss and Union Station are my favorites. They were followed by Willie Nelson. We had a very enjoyable evening under the stars with fantastic music.

Happy 4th of July (7/4):
We dined at "Rye", in Leawood where Jimmy cooks on the 4th of July. Afterwards we stayed to watch the fireworks display. Of course, I took lots of pics and posted them on Facebook.

...

Good JuJu (7/3):
While in Kansas City - we went shopping in the West Bottoms. The old warehouse/factory district has become a used everything/flea market area. Each building is full of old stuff for sale. This is a must stop in Kansas City.

"Half Price Books":
I was introduced to "Half Price Books" in Westport, while in KC, http://www.hpb.com/084/ - It is heaven - They have hundreds of art books - I'll be back there every time we are back in Kansas City. I picked up a copy of a biography on Chuck Close and a copy of Art & Fear which I already own two copies of but, can't find either of them - I must have loaned them out.

Visiting Max (7/2):
One visit we had to make this trip back was to see Max - our most recent great-grandson. Max is Erica's boy - He just turned two.

The Triplets Grew Up:
We also had the opportunity to take our triplet grandkids to dinner while we in the Kansas City area. They sure grew up fast. Tiffanie & Tess told us about their plans for college. Tess is looking into Music an Law, Tiffanie talked about Music and Theater Arts, While Tim sees football in his future plans. They enter the 10th grade this fall. I did not take new photos but, below is a watercolor I did, this year in Taos, showing how they were many, many years ago.

July In Kansas City (7/1):

We went to Kansas City at the perfect time because the weather turned cool the day after we arrived. The main reason for this trip was to help our oldest son Jimmy celebrate his 50th birthday. While back in KC we made several visits to see friends and family around the area.

Steaks By Jimmy:
Jimmy's birthday was on June 18 - but the party was on Sunday the 22nd. The photo shows Jim cooking steaks a week later for his mom and dad.
