Our Mountain From Our Backyard
...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

Technology 9/28:
Technology is a real pain when it fails to work. My so called "Smart TV" decided to not connect with my Wi-Fi so I had re-start everything just so we could watch a couple more episodes of "Longmier". Another tech issue today was trying to download balloon tickets. At least I was able to print out my tickets to ride the bus for the start of Balloon Fiesta on Saturday morning. I'll better be sure to charge the camera for Saturday - other days they will float over our house - if the wind is right.

Wonderful Sunday Morning 9/25:

I arose at 7:30 to a bright chilly day with a wonderful breakfast, my morning paper and CBS Sunday Morning saying goodbye to Charles Osgood - could life be better ? My beautiful bride slept till 9:30 - morning is my time.

Progress So Far 9/24:
I worked on my newest watercolor, "Rain Drops On Roses", while painting with friends on both Friday and Saturday mornings. Most likely, I won't finish it untill next weekend. Next week is a busy week with meetings, demos, tours, appointments plus the Watercolor Exhibit opening and more. Of course, I'm shooting pics of my roses daily - more painting references for the winter.

Todays Roses 9/21:

I try to cut some fresh roses each morning for my beautiful bride. But to be truthful, I really cut them to photograph for possible watercolors. These are the photos I posted on FaceBook this morning.

Rain Drops on Roses 9/19:
I'm taking a break from painting people (Musicians). I decided to try a large watercolor of my roses for a change. I'm going to attemp to make the rain drops seem real.

Blossom 9/18:
Blossom loves to find the warm sunshine on these cool mornings.

"Royal Street Trio" Finished 9/17:
I finished my newest watercolor - "Royal Street Trio" this morning in my Saturday painters group. I'm posting eight steps along the way.

"Royal Street Trio" 9/16:
I made more progress, today, on my watercolor "Royal Street Trio" in my Friday Painter's group.  I might be able to complete it tomorrow when I'm painting with my Saturday group. I'm debating how to crop this image - but I can make that decision when it's finished.

My September Roses 9/14:
Cool evenings and an ocassional gentle rain have given my roses new life. I keep shooting photos daily - perhaps some will become watercolors later.

Artist Needed on Mars 9/13:
A major reason to send an artist to Mars - This view from the Mast Camera (Mastcam) in NASA's Curiosity Mars rover shows a sloping hillside within the "Murray Buttes" region on lower Mount Sharp. The rim of Gale Crater, where the rover has been active since landing in 2012, is visible in the distance, through the dusty haze. The image was taken on Sept. 8, 2016, during the 1454th Martian day, or sol, of Curiosity's work on Mars.

View From Jupiter's South Pole:
Amazing - these are the photos I've been waiting for - Jupiters south pole as seen by Juno. And, many more great photos are yet to come.

"Jazz Clarinet" 9/12:
I finished my newest watercolor of Doreen "Jazz Clarinet" - just another in my French Quarter Music series. Matted, this one will fit in a 22 x 28 inch frame. It is on 300 lb rough Arches - actually I painted on the back of an old painting that I wasn't happy with.

Watercolor Demo 9/11:
Yesterday, Dave Cook did the demo at the monthly NMWS meeting at the Albuquerque museum. Dave was president of NMWS about the time I joined the watercolor society over 12 years ago.

Ready for Hillary 9/10:

Last week a few Hillary supporters got together in our neighborhood. We are working hard to get New Mexico solid blue again. I only had to walk down the street for our get together.

Progress on a Simple Watercolor (9/9):
I decided to attempt a less complicated painting of Doreen this time. I did the drawing early this morning before I went to my Friday Painter's group. I think, keeping it simple is the best approach. My resource photo shows all the hussel and bussel of the tourist behind Doreen on Royal Street in the French Quarter. Perhaps a better artist than me could handle putting in the background. Or, maybe I'll try it another day - the photo reference sure has the atmosphere of New Orleans correct.

...

Royal Street Trio (9/8):
Perhaps, I bit off too much trying to include all three in the same composition - time will tell.

Roses are Back 9/7:

Cool nights and recent rains have brought my roses back to life.
So, I went out and took a few photos this morning.

Doreen's Sweet Music 9/6:

I finished my recent watercolor of Doreen singing in the French Quarter in New Orleans. The title will be "Sweet Music". Below is a link to her music on You Tube.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYZs-wvPZfs&feature=share

Why, you might ask, is this classically trained phenom, who has played for four presidents; who was dubbed "Lady Louis" and whose sound has been compared to the great Sidney Bechet, performing "al fresco" on the streets of NOLA?

Two simple answers: She carries on the fine heritage of live music played in the streets of the Big Easy for more than a century, and, because you will, after listening for a few moments, be more than happy to pay for your listening pleasure with a generous tip, or, more often, by taking home one of Doreen's wonderful CDs as a treasure of your visit and your time with her.

Royal Street - French Quarter, Royal Street & St. Peter is where you'll meet her! Come and be amazed. 11:00a to 2p., weather permitting.

Royal Street Trio:
I'm also painting a watercolor with three street musicians from NOLA. I going to need several quality entries for the next Western Federation.

Framed New Paintings 9/5:
Yesterday, I framed two of my more recent watercolors. One is a "White Iris" that I scribbled lines into the background. The other is my "French Quarter Violinist" from my series of street musicians from New Orleans. Of course, I had to unframe some older paintings to use the frames for my newer work.

Doreen' Sweet Music 9/4:

Here's Doreen's music, straight from the French Quarter, she is the subject of my most recent watercolor - still in progress. Click on the youtube link below to hear Doreen.

Progress On My Street Music Watercolors 9/3:
I got a good start, yesterday, on my two new watercolors. They are both on full sheets of 300 lb Arches Rough. I'm much more comfortable painting large. I need to come up with something worth entering into Western Fed. The WFWS entry deadline is November 1st.

Painting Accepted 9/2:

Thanks to our juror Frank Eber, my watercolor "Reggae Reflections" will be in the NMWS Fall exhibition. Mark your calendar for the Opening Reception of our 2016 Fall Show on Saturday, Oct. 1st from 1 - 4 pm at the Fine Arts Gallery in Expo New Mexico. Mr. Eber will be giving a presentation and painting demonstration, open to the public, on Monday evening, Sept. 26th, 7pm, also at the Fine Arts Gallery. Admission is $5.00. Expo parking charges may apply.

Starting New Music Paintings:
I went back through my photos from New Orleans to find subjects for new watercolors. Royal Street in the French Quarter is the best place to find street musicians.

Fifty-Three Years Together 9/1:
Frani and I were married 53 years ago as of yesterday. I met my beautiful bride, our senior year, in High School. It's great to be married to your best friend and such a wonderful traveling companion. Frani shot that pic of me when we were in New Orleans. I took the photo of her in Colorado Springs. The fireworks are from the Isotopes baseball game we attended last Sunday here in Albuquerque.
