![]() Inside My I-mac |
New Hard Drive (5/25): Yesterday a new (and larger) hard drive was installed in my i-mac. The hard drive that went out was 250 GB - the new one has 1 TB of space. Then I reloaded the operating system. Time machine had backed up everything till May 7th so I didn't loose much. That's when my computer started giving me trouble. Luckily I got the watercolor newsletter and the docent powerpoint off the computer just before the hard drive failed for good. Now life may get back to normal again. This morning they estimated the damage on my Chevy. It's over $1800 just for a dented door. State farm wrote me a check. We are going to drop the minivan off at the repair shop this morning. On the left is a photo of the inside of my i-mac. My Roses in Full Bloom

Roses and Poppies (5/21): I have lots of other things that I should be doing - but, I took some photos of my flowers. Then I created a web page showing some of the photos. I suspect that several will become watercolors later this summer. |

A Little Child Shall Lead Them (5/20): "My mom... she says that Barack Obama is taking everybody away that doesn't have papers," the girl said, sitting cross-legged on the gymnasium floor with her classmates, while Obama sat in a folding chair next to them. A large blue banner hanging behind them, adorned with the American and Mexican flags, read, "Welcome, Mrs. Obama! Bienvenidos, Sra. Zavala!" "Yeah, well that's something that we have to work on, right?" Obama said. "To make sure that people can be here with the right kind of papers, right? That's exactly right." The little girl continued, "But my mom doesn't have any papers." Obama replied, "Well, we have to work on that. We have to fix that, and everybody's got to work together in Congress to make sure that happens." |

Jason Made It All The Way (5/19): In Jason's own words. “Wow - It’s amazing to me that after two years of dreaming about this, and planning for it, and training for it and picturing how I felt in Cairo, thinking, ‘can I do this or not?’ and now to be standing here at the base of Table Mountain and realizing that I rode every inch of it – it’s kind of a testament to what you can do if you put your mind to it. I don’t think I’ll ever look at a world map again without thinking of this trip and how big it was. Every morning when I stretch I look at the map of Africa on the truck and it’s amazing to look at that line and think I did all that on a bike." ![]() Jason is Somewhere in the Photo |

![]() Blossom's Summer Cut ![]() Frani & Woody in Salt Lake City |
Back From Utah (5/18): Frani and I got back from Salt Lake City yesterday. We went for the opening of this years Western Federation of Watercolor Societies opening and the related delegate meetings. I was representing New Mexico and helping explain our plans for hosting the exhibition in 2011. The sunset below shows the Great Salt Lake off in the distance. I shot the photo from the deck of the home where we ate the first night in Utah. On Sunday, we drove to see the lake up close. That photo shows the mountains reflected in the Great Salt Lake. ![]() Utah Sunset ![]() Reflection Great Salt Lake Turner to Cezanne:
This morning I took 3rd graders through the art areas of the Albuquerque Museum. Their teacher prepared them well and they were very attentive and sharp. The combination makes for a very successful museum experience for all including for use docents. This was my first look at our new exhibit "Turner to Cezanne" because I was away in Utah when it opened. |

| Two Blossoms (5/13): There is Blossom my puppy and there are blossoms blooming in our back yard. Both bring a certain amount of joy to our lives. Sometimes not - Blossom woke me with gentle barking this morning wanting to go outside. |

| Two More Watercolors Accepted (5/12): Yesterday I received notice that another two of my watercolors were accepted into a juried exhibition. This time - into the Taos National Exhibition of American Watercolor XIV. This years Taos exhibition was open to signature members only. The exhibit will again be in the beautiful Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, New Mexico. The exhibit runs August 14th through September 29th. |

They will hang in The Gallery at Paper Mill Village in Marietta, Georgia. Both of my shipping boxes are in use at other shows in Missouri and Alabama, so I'll need to buy a couple more Airfloat containers. Jason Should Reach Capetown on May 15th (5/10): I copied this from Jason Becker's facebook page yesterday "...six days and counting. Can you believe it? Four months of riding my bike and we only have six days left until we reach our final destination...Cape Town, South Africa. We just finished eight days of off road cycling through Namibia and have reached our last rest day on the Orange River in Southern Namibia. This country is amazing." On May 3rd - Jason Becker wrote: "Namibia might be the coolest place on earth. Well, at least the coolest country we have passed through so far. Just got back from hiking the tallest sand dune on the planet, Big Daddy, in the Namib desert. Got up before sunrise this morning and watched it come up over the distant mountians from atop the dune. I love this planet." Good Job Jason

![]() Time Machine |
Back Up Everything (5/8): Today is Frani's Birthday (I think she turned 30 this year). We went shopping for Native American Art and got ice cream in Old Town. It doesn't take much to make us happy. And was I happy - because my mood had changed so very much from last night when my i-mac froze up. I was working on lots of important things for Western Fed in Utah next week. But a long call to a nice lady, named Alisha, at Apple got everything fixed. A while back, I had upgraded to "OS X Leopard" which has a feature called "Tim Machine". To fix my computer - she had me re-format my hard drive erasing everything. But because "Time Machine" had backed up everything I've done onto a seperate hard drive, it could be reloaded back onto my i-mac. Now it's all normal and I'm happy again. So my advice to everyone out there - BACK IT UP - BACK IT UP. Watercolor Opening: Last night we went to the opening of the NMWS Spring Exhibition. We had a wonderful turnout. I took photos of the crown and the beautiful building. We are holding Western Fed in that building next year. I wanted pics to show WFWS delegates meeting in Utah, next week, what 2011's venue looks like. |

![]() J K Drummond |
Watercolor (5/7): Tonight is the opening of the NMWS Spring Exhibition at the Fine Arts Building. I have two paintings in the exhibit. Artists will find out tonight which paintings our Juror, Ron Ranson, selected for awards. It is a quality show - I previewed it last night at the Signature Members Pot Luck Preview Dinner. Last night, Dave and I made the final corrections in our presentation booklet for the WFWS meeting in Salt Lake City. It's ready to be printed now. I'll finish up the Powerpoint Presentation after I shoot photos of the opening tonight. I want to include photos of the Fine Arts Building full of people and art. J K Drummond: If you want to take watercolor lessons from an excellent teacher, then take classes from Jae Drummond. She will be teaching both figure painting and still-life/floral painting classes this Summer. Below is the scheduling information for those who are interested. "Painting still/lifes and florals in watercolor" is a four-week course which will run Sunday mornings from 9 to 12. This class will concentrate on techniques for painting different objects and materials convincingly and with luminosity. I'm offering the class twice; once June 6 through June 27 and once July 11 through Aug. 1. Tuition $120. "Painting the figure in watercolor" is also a four week course and will run Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5. This class will focus on creating beautiful skintones and improving three-dimensionality. This class will also be offered twice; once June 6 through June 27 and once July 11 through Aug. 1. Tuition $120. ![]() First Poppy |
My First Poppy (5/6): I was quite surprised to find my first poppy in bloom this morning. It always brightens my day to see my poppies in bloom. I'm going to have more subjects to paint this summer. I also received a shipment of new tubes of watercolors and ten sheets of hot press Arches. I'm going to try painting on the slicker surface this summer. Most of my time in the last few days has been spent getting our presentation ready for Salt Lake City. Dave is coming over tonight for our last proof reading. I'd like to get it printed quickly so I can ship it to my hotel in Utah. My beautiful bride has also been busy sewing the binding onto her newest baby quilt. It's a present for a new baby girl back in Kansas City. |

| Thank You: The tickets for the Frani's quilt are going fast. I was told that 10 quilt raffle tickets were sold in the first 24 hours just from friends of mine on the web. We are making progress toward our goal of $10,000 to match the Lumpkin grant. I also heard that we picked up two separate $1000 donations last week. As well as a group of local artists who are giving $500 and a high school drama club which raised another $400. It will all look even better after the art sale planned in June and a huge garage sale in May. The after school art programs will be healthy next year thanks to all the generous people out there. |
