The best outcome in an art class is if everyone is
successful in a different way.  Too much of a receipe
makes every pie taste the same.  Students need direction,
but not too much.  How much is the question ?
Creativity will flourish if watered and nurtured just right.
Before we began actually painting on our "Collages",
I asked students to look over the very successful
little experiments they had just done.  "If you can have as
much fun freely playing with color on you churches, as
you did on these, the final paintings will be fantastic."
And they were.

As we were working on our drawings, collages and paintings
we looked at the work of some famous artists.
Among those were Georgia O'Keeffe, Romare Bearden,
Charles Burchfield and John Marin.  O'Keeffe and Marin both
painted the Ranchos Church in Taos, New Mexico.
Bearden was best known for his work in Collage and
Burchfield broke new ground in the use of watercolor.
You can view our finished paintings on the next page. >>>>
